The sculptor Paul Granlund, who graduated from Gustavus in 1952 and was a sculptor in residence at Gustavus from 1971 until his retirement in 1996, has a good number of bronze sculptures on campus. Granlund usually works with the human figure and some aspect of his faith in his sculptures.

Gustavus has a great chapel right in the middle of campus called Christ Chapel, which features Granlund sculptures on each of the doors. Each door has a different name: Christ Door (north), Hope Door (south), Old Testament Door (east), and New Testament Door (west). This is one of the figures that graces Christ Door to the north. There are seven figures on this door, representing the seven major points of the Second Article of the Apostles’ Creed. I’m not entirely sure which point this is. The colors remind me of Christmas.
