water, lilipads, paddleboat

A lake near Crosslake, MN where my parents recently bought a place. It was really a very nice night and the moon was 99% full so things were quite illuminated. This was taken on a little dock down on a little tiny lake with lots of lilipads. The thing in the foreground is a paddleboat that was sitting there next to me. There were some clouds out that I was hoping would stay longer than they did that night, but you can see the last traces of them just over the trees in this shot. That’s the red part.
Unfortunately, this is the only shot that turned out from that night. Sam and I took a bunch of shots of this crazy spiderweb, but the gentle breeze must have blown it during the exposure, because they all came out blurry. Spiderwebs are so cool and so impossible to photograph at night.
I watched Million Dollar Baby last night—man, that is a good movie. If you are looking for a good movie to watch, I would definitely recommend it.. But, I am a pretty big fan of Morgan Freeman’s. He’s quite good. He also did that March of the Penguins movie which was also good. I also love Robin Hood and Shawshank, but that’s a whole different story.
Starting tomorrow I have at least three shots of a half-destroyed Wahlstrom Hall going up which I am excited about. Night shots again… Hopefully I’ll be able to shoot some portraits this week or use my new filters or Holga, but I am working on painting my kitchen, so who knows how much photographing I’ll get in.

Excellent shot! The moonlight reflecting off the lilipads is beautiful and the star trails in the “blue” sky are perfect.

Fantastic lighting combined with star trails…does it get better than this?
