skin-on-fries

The concession stand that was closest to the main stage at the Rock Bend Folk Festival. What really caught my eye was the large man who was making the Kettle Korn. He looked the part perfectly: striped apron, big stirring stick, huge black kettle, and the largest chops (sideburns) at the festival. He stood there, stirring the kettle for a while and every few minutes would tip it to pour the kettle korn out and into the large, white, plastic tub next to it.

This, and the previous five photographs were taken on my modded Holga using a single roll of Ilford Delta 400 120 Black and White Film. I developed the roll myself using Kodak T-Max developer and then scanned the negatives on an Epson something something scanner at work. In Photoshop, I added some contrast with curves adjustment layers and cleaned up dust and fibres from the scanning using the healing brush. Speaking of the healing brush, that is the best thing ever. Adobe, or whoever invented that thing, deserves a Nobel prize for it. I use it probably daily and it really saves so much time and effort. It has probably increased digital photographers’ productivity by like 600 units.

Now, before I go, I wanted to say a little something about the photo of the day today (linked below). I really like it. It is just a photo of some Graffiti found in Barcelona, but I think it is an incredible piece of art. I don’t know why, but it just says so much to me. I think it looks like a Picasso in some ways.

  1. What does that sign say..I see “skin for fries” or “fries on skin” or something like that. Hope you had a good day out.

  2. Thanks Rob. It says “Skin on Fries” — I think it refers to the potato skins still being on the fries. I didn’t have any myself, but they sound good.

  3. “Skin on fries, eh”… that sounds like something from Silence of the Lambs. Anyhow, I’m really enjoying these Holga photos, Joe; especially today’s. I look forward to checking Shifting Pixel each morning.
