My good friend, Anthony Bayerl. He’s all into playing guitar and singing and stuff and he has a band that he works on, called Someone’s Hero. I would put him in the good category, but I am a bit biased. We arranged awhile ago to do some photos for press stuff and this is one of my favorites. Reimans’ farm in Princeton, Minnesota is in the background and this huge tree was just there on the road. I did some other black and white processing with this one about a year ago but figured that I would have another try at it but in color. The black and white version is currently hanging above my desk in my office. I wish I would have been using RAW back then…

  1. This kind of image is not the kind I normally tackle so it’s nice to see someone elses effeorts.

It captures isolation very well and to me has a commercial feel to it which I like as well.

I think that colour is the correct choice because I suspect the human subject might get lost.

This image probably looks very good in print as well.

  2. Incredible, complex shot without the person at the base of the tree. With them even more so, gets your mind working overtime.

  3. Thanks guys, I’m glad that you like it. Perhaps I’ll post more from this shoot in the future. But, tomorrow I have another holga shot going up.

  5. That is a great portrait.
    Powerful colour!

  6. I love how vibrant the colors are in this photo, and how massive the tree looks next to the man holding a guitar. Beautiful portrait.

  7. The colors are magic in this shot. The reddish earthy color together with the blue/turquoise tint. I love it!

  8. Wow, that guy at the bottom of the tree is WAAAYYYYY hot :-) j/k I love this picture. Joe you are a genius.

  9. OMG, it’s THE Anthony Bayerl… From the picture!

  10. My brother, John Bayerl, found this picture somehow. We are from the Bayerls who settled in Birch Creek, a small farming community just north of Menominee, Michigan.

I like the fullness of the shot - large tree with Anthony at it’s base with the corn field and farm. Also the bend in the road - makes me wonder where it came from and is going.

  11. @Dick - Thanks for stopping by and leaving the nice comment. I’m glad you like the photo. And, I’ll be sure to pass this on to Anthony… I’m not sure if he knows you at all or not, but I’m sure he’ll be interested in this.

  12. I am honored to have my family’s farm recognized in the background of your work. Good work, you have an open invitation to borrow the scenery any time.
