Starburst by Paul Granlund

This is the Starburst sculpture by Paul Granlund that sits in front of Olin Hall of Science at Gustavus. In fact, it is located just out of shot to the right of Sunday’s shot. It is quite a tall sculpture, about a few units bigger than myself. Also, I was lying on the ground when I took this shot, just like yesterday’s.
What I find particularly interesting about the Starburst sculpture is that it is one of the few Granlund sculptures at Gustavus that doesn’t incorporate the human figure. It is all just one big, spikey geometric figure. I guess that’s appropriate though, being in front of the building that houses Math, Computer Science, Physics, Technology Services, and Telecommunications. We’re all nerds and find beauty in logical things like shapes, not seemingly random things like the human figure. Besides, all the boys know that girls have cooties.
