a building in saint peter
November 9, 2005Another HDR shot of the city of St. Peter, MN at night.
Yesterday was voting day here in the US, so that was fun. I went to the Armory in town and performed my civic duty and got my little, red, “I Voted” sticker. That sticker is really the only real reason I voted. It’s also pretty much the only reason I ever go to the doctor or the dentist. To be completely honest, I don’t think that I would do anything if it weren’t for treats.
For anybody keeping track of Saint Peter politics, I would like to say that I voted yes for the referendum to raise property taxes to give more money to the local schools because it is so ridiculously important that our community’s children have a good education and it is difficult enough to give it to them with what the funding that they are currently receiving. I’m not sure if it passed yet or not, but I sure hope that it did.
Three things that I am excited for:
- My beer brewing equipment — I ordered a bunch of stuff from Homebrew Heaven and have been quite pleased with their service. I asked them questions online and got answers very quickly. Also, they called me yesterday to ask if I wanted something installed on my brewpot that I had accidentally overlooked. If you are looking at getting into homebrewing, I would recommend you check them out.
- My Vita Prep — I had a blender sometime last year that I got from Target. Unfortunately, it completely died after a couple of weeks so I returned it and begun my quest to find a better blender that wouldn’t let me down for years and years of hardcore abuse. Well, I think I found it in the Vita Prep from Vita-Mix and I ordered it late last week. Hopefully it will come soon so I can be up to my ears in smoothies.
- My new fileserver — Best Buy had a sale on 160GB hard drives this weekend, so I bought two at $40 each and have been working on putting them into an old computer that I have had sitting around my house for a while now. I almost have everything ready, I just need to install Linux on the danged thing and set up file sharing and everything will be good to go. This came just in the nick of time, becuase my current hard drive is rapidly being filled with new photos! (For the nerds out there, I am planning on installing Debian 3.1 because of its open sourceness.)

These night shots are really cool. I don’t undestand HDR, but I like the results. And hyperrealism is my new favorite word. Good luck with your beer!

Joe, these HDR shots are really awesome. This kind of reminds me of how things look in dreams, mine at least. Looking forward to getting together on the weekend of the 18th.
