powerlines
November 16, 2005This is another photo from back in February. I was watching trains with my friend, Todd, in Coon Rapids, MN right by these big powerlines. One thing I know about Todd is that he loves to watch trains. I remeber that it was shortly after everything had melted, so there were huge puddles all over the place. We saw a lot of trains that day—22 if I remember correctly. Todd loves trains so much that he even made fun of me when I was taking this shot because it wasn’t of a train.
And just like yesterday’s shot, this is a digital photo that I worked with in Photoshop to make it look more like a Holga photo. However, the process for creating the vignetting on this one was almost completely different. [Photoshop nerd alert] Yesterday’s digital vignetting was done using Photoshop’s raw converter vignetting fixer feature in reverse. Today’s, on the other hand, was done by creating a series of solid color (black) adjustment layers with radial gradient masks. So, it was a bit more manual than just moving a couple of sliders. Plus, I did some other things like a curves adjustment layer and a monochrome channel mixer set to luminoscity mode.
And finally, my beer brewing equipment all arrived yesterday. I took all the stuff out of the huge box and spread it across my kitchen. It looks so glorious and exciting. I can’t wait to give my first batch a try. Hopefully I’ll get to it this weekend. My first beer will be an Irish stout. Mmmmmm.
Also, it is my Aunt Pat’s birthday today. (Happy birthday Aunt Pat!) I bought her some jazz CD’s of Kurt Elling, Flirting with Twilight and Man in the Air, and a Sigur Ros CD, (), that she should be receiving in the mail shortly. If you haven’t ever heard these people, you are missing out. Kurt Elling is based out of Chicago and does a lot of vocalese and scat singing style jazz. I believe he has a regular gig at the Green Mill. Sigur Ros is from Iceland and they are just plain good. Both are also great live.
