Moldy Tofu 2 ƒ/5.6, 3 s, 100 ISO

Geez it’s been way too long since I’ve posted anything. And, unfortunately, this is a shot that I wasn’t really planning too much on posting. But, considering that I haven’t shot anything in over a month, I figured I’d throw it up (pun intended).

Actually, I got a case of the strep. For the most part it hasn’t really been all that bad. My appetite has been high because my body wants to make t-cells and anti-germs. But it feels like I swallowed a chunk of kryptonite… I have no energy and that sucks. I hope it will be gone in the morning.

New Vinyl

To cheer myself up, I just ordered some new records that I’m quite excited about. I’m not too familiar with all of the albums, but I am positive that I will love them all very much and am looking forward to adding them to my collection.

  • Sufjan Stevens – Seven Swans
  • Iron and Wine – The Creek Drank the Cradle
  • Iron and Wine – Woman King
  • Iron and Wine – Our Endless Numbered Days
  • The Shins – Chutes Too Narrow
  • The Shins – Oh Inverted World

The trouble with ordering things on the internet is that you get discounts on shipping if you order more…

Greased Lightbox

In my hiatus, I pounded out a Greasemonkey/Creammonkey script called Greased Lightbox. I want you to check it out and let me know if you like it or not. And P.S., It’s pretty much my favorite thing on the internet right now, so you better like it.

The Sopranos

ohmygod ohmygod ohmygod… March 12.

  1. I really like this one, Joe — maybe even more than the last one. Composition is compelling. I like how the focus on the right side sort of keeps you uneasy. Oh, and I like that little piece that’s hanging off the edge. Looks like some really nasty tofu.

Where do you take shots like this to get such great lighting and background. How much photoshopping do you do?

  2. Thanks for the comment, Justin. This tofu was especially nasty. It started out as the “extra firm” type, but by this time it had degraded so much that it was basically the consistency of a not very firm flan.

This was taken in my kitchen on my kitchen table with no lighting other than the regular ceiling lights. It also happened to be dark outside, so the only light on the subject was from my kitchen lights. Photoshopping on this one after the RAW conversion was a bare minimum: noise ninja, resize, and sharpen.

Afterwards, I had thought about selectively blurring parts of it to increase the depth of field feeling, but I think the bokeh is sufficient.

  5. Love this photo, what did you do with it afterwards, and did it smell?

  6. prasoon: that’s disgusting!

micki: I just dumped it in my garbage can. And, it actually didn’t smell that much at all… mostly like an exaggerated tofu smell. It had, however, lost most of its solidity..
