This was posted by guest photographer John Washington to celebrate the one-year birthday of shifting pixel. More information.

A group of young men celebrate a birthday on a scorching hot beach at Blackpool.

I took the photo the other day. These lads had been playing football on the beach as the sun went down and before they called it a day they had one last dip in the sea. I snapped away with the intent of capturing movement and briefly spoke to the subject of the photo. It turns out that it was his birthday and they had travelled from manchester to celebrate.

My work is listed on gomma and file magazine and that’s about it really. I started out in art from the age of five and was obsessed with drawing for many many years. I eventually had my own small business supplying graphics and photography to public organisations and small to medium businesses. I am currently just starting a career lecturing in graphics and photography and this is exactly what I want to do. I am passionate about art in general, although photography is where my heart lies. I love the concept of blogging because it empowers people with the opportunity to be seen and heard. I have a love hate relationship with my own blog mainly because I sometimes struggle to realise what I want to achieve with it. I’m inspired by everyone and there are many blogs I admire.
