Scarecrow Doctor
October 7, 2006I figured it would probably be best to take an intermission from posting concert photos to put up some night shots. It’s been a while. I forgot how exhilarating the whole process is for me.
There was a full moon last night and it was so bright. Also, the remains from a scarecrow building contest was hanging out at the Borgeson Family Cabin up at Gustavus, so Jerry and I went up to take some night shots. I have a few winning photos that I’ll post over the next few days. Jerry was using his new Argus C3, so he has to develop his film before he knows whether he got any winners or not. I think he probably did and I’m probably just as excited as he is to see how they turn out.
If the moon stays bright, I might go out again tonight to get some night shots in a different location.

I like how this photo looks. It looks like a day shot, but with an eerie twist. The sky is awesome with the large streaks of clouds radiating out from the cabin. I also like the lighter blurred silhouette around the trees contrasted against the crisp foreground, especially the cabin-tree interface.
You should photoshop me into the place of the scarecrow.

That looks a million times better than I expected. Incredible job. Strangely enough, I believe my best shot was of the same scarecrow doctor.

I’m going to have to agree with everybody else on the awesomeness of this picture. Night photography is the coolest and I definitely want to work at getting better at it. These colors are just amazing.
Is that the same cabin from the very first picture you posted on this site?

Thanks Beth.
I hope you’ll all like the others I’ll be putting up.
And yes, it is the same cabin from the very first picture I posted on this site. However, that first picture is currently missing in action… Hopefully I’ll be able to get it back soon.
Update: it’s back.

Really wonderful shot. The lighting is just amazing. Was it all from moonlight? Fun subject too.

Roberta – Thanks for the compliments. For the most part the lighting was all from moonlight. There was a little bit of light coming off of some buildings on campus, but since the moon was full and so bright that night, it didn’t affect the shot too much.
