Shifting Pixel 2 ƒ/22.0, 20 s, 200 ISO
This was posted by guest photographer Dave Wild of publicenergy to celebrate the two-year birthday of Shifting Pixel. More information.

Whenever you’ve given a present from somebody and they have made it themselves, the standard response is ‘Oh that means so much – making it yourself makes it that extra bit special’. The truth though is that you’re thinking ‘You cheapskate!’ That being said, I made this image for the 2nd birthday party of Shifting Pixel – a fellow of the 9rules photography community and an inspiration – both in terms of photography and presentation.

The image isn’t typical of my own photos, but I didn’t want to give away a typical image. This is a special occasion so I needed to do things differently. The image is made up of things that I had lying around, hopefully arranged in a pleasing manner.

If you’re interested in how this “cake” was made, the ingredients were: A broken PC, a bag full of laptop keys, a torch and an old bendy tripod. Mix gently and expose for twenty seconds in a dark room – tint for taste and resize before consuming.
