This weekend I had the opportunity to take some portraits of my friend, and regular reader, Paul Fraser. It was a lot of fun.

He’s a budding composer and needed some professional portraits to help amp up his public image. So, Paul, his Wurlitzer, and I went to the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden with that giant cherry on a spoon sculpture.

I’m a cloud person. I’ve known for a couple of years now that I am obsessed with clouds. I could spend hours staring at them, and I do all the time. So, when I was shooting Paul up against a lush green backdrop and I noticed that the clouds were looking really cool, I whipped out the fisheye lens, got uncomfortably close, and took this shot. I hope you like it.

Full Moon

There’s a full moon tonight that Jerry and I will be taking full advantage of. We don’t have much of a plan for locations, but I have a feeling that it’s going to be legendary.

  1. Wow, Joe, you really did well there. I like it, does he himself? I’m sure he will. I see you also tagged this with “smile”, I think that’s one of the great bits here that make this an awesome portrait. When I need a bit of an amp, I’ll let you know.

  2. Thanks Nils. I’m glad you like this one. I’m pretty happy with it, myself. :) As far as I know, Paul likes it too. I haven’t talked with him in person about it yet, but through email he seemed to. If he stops by here, maybe he’ll chime in and let us know.

  3. Yes, I like it! I think I was laughing at Joe during this photo. I like the thin film covering the top of the junipers, and how the clouds burst out above it. I have some crazy elephant-skin smile lines here, too. Great work, Joe.

  5. You definitely need to do more “people” shots–the last two photos that you posted are dynamite.

  10. Hey Joe. I love this shot of Paul. The angle and perspective makes it a kind of subtle caricature. What kind of post processing did you do on this one?

    How’ve you been?
