Another shot taken at Bayside Resort in Park Rapids, MN.

Sam and I are going on a short camping/biking trip this weekend and for the first part of next week up the north shore of Lake Superior. It’ll be really nice to get away for a few days, bike around, relax, take photos, and maybe read a book. Hopefully I’ll bring back a photo or two that’s worth posting, but I won’t stress about it too much. I’m mostly hoping for nice weather.

My advice for you, do what you love because nothing else really matters all that much.

Another shot from the open mic night at the Southern Theater in Minneapolis.

This guy read quite a bit of stuff from a book (or maybe a CD?) that he has been working on. He was actually one of the best storytellers of the night. He had a very interesting look going for him with wily hair, aviator style looking eye glasses, a scruffly beard, awesomely tight pants with stuffed pockets, and a really crazy cool stained-glass/mosaic red button-down long sleeve shirt.

Business Cards

I’m working on a business card design and am looking for a high quality printing company to print them for me. If you have any recommendations, I’m all ears.

I need full color front and back with bleeds and am interested in something higher quality than the standard business card that you see floating around. I don’t know much about printing, but I think that letterpress + offset printing would be really hot. Let me know if you can hook me up because the samples I’ve received have been thoroughly unimpressive.

There’s a full moon coming up next weekend. I’m getting really excited and crossing my fingers that it’ll be somewhat warm and tolerable weather. Right now it’s not looking too great, but it should be at least above zero. If it’s decent enough, I’m planning on hitting the countryside with my Holga and new cable release apparatus. It’ll be night shots on film for my first time.

To be honest with you, I really liked it. He had a unique voice and an unusual charisma on stage, swaying back and forth as he sang. The song was good too. I wish I would have gotten his name. So, dude—if you’re reading this, drop me a line. I’d like to hear more of your stuff.

Racquetball

I’ve finally been playing a lot more racquetball. I used to play a lot more, but then I got busy. I’ve been saying that I should get back in the game for way too long now, and it’s starting to feel good. Now, if I can only keep it up I’ll be in good shape in no time flat.

I love the game. To me, it seems like such a perfect amalgam a lot of different things. You have to be quick, think on your toes, and strategize one or two moves ahead of your opponent. When I am evenly matched, as corny as it sounds, I feel like a samurai in a sword fight. Time seems to come to a halt and you can plan your next few moves all in the blink of an eye.

It’s actually a weekly midnight open mic night that they refer to as a Cabaret Ball and has been active for over fifteen years.

Acts this weekend ranged from stand-up comedy, to storytelling and poetry, to musical performances. There were even a couple of pieces performed by the wonderfully talented Flying Foot Forum.

There were a lot of excellent performances throughout the two hours. The whole thing was quite a good experience and definitely worth the $5 admission. If you are in town sometime, check it out. And if you are in the mood, sign up to perform. All of the people there were very nice and welcoming.
