He needed a photo for some work related things and I thought we may as well have a little fun while we were at it. I took this with the fisheye lens in the server room at Gustavus right in front of a rack that has a bunch of crazy cables coming out everywhere.

Overall I’m very happy with this shot–although I would have liked to have done it a bit differently. Unfortunately, we were in a very tight location so I forced to use such a wide lens and couldn’t get my lights quite where I would have liked them to be.

This shot was lit with two strobes, one on the right, directly aimed at Jerry’s face and the cables, and the other on the left, bounced into a silver umbrella.

We drove for what seemed like a couple of hours and didn’t come across anything that really grabbed us. About to give up, we headed toward home. Suddenly, we drove past this barn and in an instant were out of the car with our photo gear pointed at the barn. Needless to say, we were quite excited about the structure.

We spent an hour or two at this site until Jerry finished his roll in his old school Yashica–he wanted to see how they turned out first thing the next morning and figured he would take the opportunity to experiment a bit with shutter speeds and apertures. He posted a few of the good ones.

It was a lot of fun.

He’s a budding composer and needed some professional portraits to help amp up his public image. So, Paul, his Wurlitzer, and I went to the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden with that giant cherry on a spoon sculpture.

I’m a cloud person. I’ve known for a couple of years now that I am obsessed with clouds. I could spend hours staring at them, and I do all the time. So, when I was shooting Paul up against a lush green backdrop and I noticed that the clouds were looking really cool, I whipped out the fisheye lens, got uncomfortably close, and took this shot. I hope you like it.

Full Moon

There’s a full moon tonight that Jerry and I will be taking full advantage of. We don’t have much of a plan for locations, but I have a feeling that it’s going to be legendary.

There is something that I find invigorating about taking night shots that’s difficult to put into words. I get out in nature, under the brightly-lit night sky, and everything just feels the way it’s supposed to. Things slow down, I get energized, and everything else fades away.

This was also actually the first time I went to the Kasota Prairie–one of my favorite spots for night shots–by myself. As it turns out, things get a little creepy out there without a partner…

If you like this, why not stick around?
