Fisher record player
October 25, 2005A close-up of the Fisher record player I found this weekend. And I’m not kidding when I say close-up. This is a 15mm lens, so the thing was just a few milimeters away from touching the needle arm. I’ll probably be posting a few photos of the whole set up in the next few days. I guess that I use my camera as a tool for exploration, so when I photograph things I like to take a lot of different photos that I string together in a longwinded series for all of you readers to endure. But you like it. You know you do.
I’m actually very excited about this record player. If you don’t know the story, Rob and I found it this weekend on the curb for free while we were walking. All of the components worked famously, the receiver just needed a new fuse.
Unfortunately, I don’t have any records… So, I have to go record shopping, right? Well, I actually ordered a few last night off of ebay that I will hopefully have very soon:
- Arcade Fire – Funeral
- The Decemberists – Castaways and Cutouts
- Sufjan Stevens – Michigan (double vinyl)
- Sufjan Stevens – Illinoise (with the Superman cover, double vinyl)
They are all really good albums, so I am very excited to have them. I’d also like to get some Sigur Ros, but all I could find in short notice was some EP stuff. I’d rather go all out and get LPs, it just seems like such a better deal.
This is my submission for this week’s Photo Friday challenge, “Retro.”

Hey, my brother, the worst shopper in the world, decided to start a record collection, so me, trying to be sensible, dug up my Dad’s old Fisher record player, and tried to work it. Do I need to replace the needle, or change something else, because it is not working… at all!
