The Sufjan show at the Pabst Theater in Milwaukee was very cool. The whole band was dressed in matching bird costumes. Sufjan had the biggest wings.

I believe Sufjan was the only bird, and the other band members had butterfly wings on.

Sufjan was the Majesty Songbird and his band the Magical Butterfly Brigade. Here’s some info about it, a free live mp3 for download, and some videos.

I have to confirm this, but I understand that his reasoning for the wings (besides the song) was Psalm 91:4, which says, “He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.”

@Grahame: Very cool, thanks for the information about the Biblical connection. You’ll have to let us know if you can confirm it.
